Imagining the Future of Health and Wellbeing of Small Communities

Twenty rural hospitals closed in 2020, making it a record year for rural hospital closures in the U.S. Since 2010, more than 135 have closed. This crisis has created gaps in care and lengthened transit times for medical care for millions of people — a critical problem in need of a solution. Rural Resolve was completed as an HDR research initiative that explored how design solutions could impact health and wellbeing in rural towns. We studied a number of real small towns and asked ourselves: How could design make an impact?
